Dicks Are Magic

Male babies are born into this world with perfectly designed penises. For some strange reason, people of various times and cultures decided that it would be a good idea to cut part of babies’ penises off. It happened to me. My parents believed the advice of the doctor, one of the greatest authorities in our culture, that I would be better off with the most sensitive, pleasurable, part of my body removed.

I intend to donate a certain amount of proceeds to efforts to eliminate this practice. My plan is to use “Uncut” in the description of any item featuring an uncut dick. A portion of the proceeds of those items will go to organizations promoting intact genitals, and the rights of children.

My concept behind DicksAreMagic emerged as a result of the urging of my creative muse, to figure out a way of promoting my work as a sex therapist, sexual wellness coach, and erotic hypnotherapist. I found I was making art from porn; or at least what most people call porn.

My awareness is that the distinction between porn, and art, is clearly so subjective. Is the naked body pornographic? Is an erection pornographic? Isn’t historical art absolutely filled with naked bodies, some even with erections!

As a sex therapist for men, and as a gay man, dicks are a central figure in my day. It’s interesting to me the prominence that penises have in our world, and yet aren’t often spoken of. In fact conversation around penises is very much lacking. It solely exists in shadowy and often shameful arenas; and removed and dissected in sterilized medical offices. The cock is an occult object.

A cock is seen as an assault weapon, an impolite and uncivilized solicitor, a base and demanding tyrant, a vestigial animal encumbrance. Even in progressive circles, talking about one’s genitals is generally considered distasteful.

Is it any wonder that men don’t express their feelings, or go to the doctor, or other health practitioner often enough? They are acutely aware that something very central to who they are, should never see the light of day.

Shame is terribly destructive. It paralyzes us, locks up our love and creativity, and makes us do bad things. Self love is the antithesis of shame, but it takes a measure of self love to even ask for help, to create space for self care, to talk to someone, or even journal about one’s hurt and struggle.

This project is my desire to bring cocks out into the light of day, into the kitchen and living room, out to the street, in an artistic and fun way. To me they represent male self care, appreciation, and love, elements which make wonderfully magical ground for upright human behaviour.

Cocks ARE Magic. Their basic function is not so basic; co-creating another human being. That’s pretty magical in itself. However, there are hidden magics available to the advanced user of dick magic.

Dicks are consciousness raising tools. Genital stimulation creates potent chemicals in the owner’s body, altering one’s state of being. From gentle soft cock massage, to mind blowing orgasm, it all produces happy and healthy endogenous pharmacopoeia.

There are esoteric practices described in Tantra and Taoism, where the sexual energy is circulated through the body, creating ecstatic states, spiritual experiences and healing. From first hand experience I can tell you that it’s true. I teach mindful masturbation, seminal retention, and energy circulation to my clients.

It seems to me, that in developing self confidence, empowerment, and all round good health, a man should start with his dick. A dick is the center of man’s microcosm. It is an axis that his whole world revolves around. And it has magically transformative powers!

So let’s bring it out of the shadows, and into the light of day. I propose a revolution!… through throw cushions, dick mugs, and muscle shirts; because art is the best way to change the world, and most of the time not get arrested.

Something else I intuited from my own creations, was that it’s often about a communion of cocks. In my designs, they appear to connect and communicate in different ways. This is awkward as well as encouraging, reflecting men’s desire yet hesitation in being vulnerable with each other. I don’t just mean in a sexual way, but in a human, real, authentic way.

And yet another underlying, perhaps subversive message, is the commodification of our sexuality. These are computer generated and arranged, taken from the internet and manipulated using software. There is a geometric perfection, and precise arrangement. The organic and imperfect shape of a penis contrasts with our mathematic and precise technology.

As we move further into a world more arranged by tech, perhaps we will grow to appreciate more, the imperfect and unique forms that nature creates.

Textiles have traditionally used motifs inspired by nature. Here you’ll find my designs inspired by the nature that is close at hand, the magic dick.

It may seem crass to some, or rude or indecent; but I believe that we should be talking about dicks, thinking about dicks, looking at dicks, and wearing dicks.

Why? Because they’re cool, they’re magical, and they’re fun!

A dick is a microcosm of a man; a self-similar fractal. A guy’s dick reflects his health, his confidence, and his self esteem; essentially how much he loves himself. Irregardless of the size and shape, it’s how he embodies it! The thing is, that a loved penis will love you back. A happy healthy man will have a happy healthy dick.

The inhibition that we have as society about male genitalia, also reflects our inhibitions about male emotion, desire, and vulnerability. This project is hopefully a light hearted way of talking about various elements of male sexuality — and an expression to describe consensual, and healthy ways for men to express their vitality, passion, lust, fear, shame, modesty, humor and of course love.
